About the Competition
“Flower Jam” - 2020

The Open International Competition of Urban Landscape Design “Flower Jam” will be held in Moscow for the fourth year running.

The participants of the “Flower Jam” - 2020 will be focusing on improvement of the urban space in the most broad sense possible.

The competition gardens in 2020 are meant to not only benefit the ecosystems of the city, but also to improve the social climate of the busy capital. The gardens will increase biodiversity, improve the urban microclimate, produce oxygen and clean the air of the metropolis. However, perhaps even more importantly, the gardens will also become spots for social gatherings, spaces that provoke communication, creativity and create a friendly social environment.

This year we will view the urban exhibition gardens as an opportunity of connection with nature, as an invitation to slow down, look around, take on a new perspective to ourselves and each other.

The broad concept of this year's competition brings opportunities for creating many fascinating gardens, showing different styles, from regular gardens to the most modern trends. As far as we now, there is no better cure to burnout, stress, loss of motivation and other psychological problems than new experiences and emotions, which this festival will certainly bring to both designers and visitors of the garden.

Moscow citizens would have the opportunity to enjoy the variety of bright colours, smells, textures and shapes of plants in gardens without having to leave the city. They might even hear the soft buzz of bees, the delicate rustling of grass and the jolly twittering of birds.

This year, the applications and the projects are accepted simultaneously with the deadline being in mid-January. Right after completing the application form on the website the participant can submit the project.

The projects must be in tune with the mentioned thoughts about the ecological and social roles of gardens and have the idea of benefitting the urban space behind them.

In early February the meeting or the Expert Selecting Committee will be held to discuss the submitted projects.

The Competition Award Ceremony will traditionally take place in late August - early September, during the “Flower Jam” festival. This is also when all the special projects will be held - the amateurs flower bed design competition in Moscow residential areas, some events dedicated to the Moscow City Celebration and much more.

Flower Jam 2019
7.7 million guests, 42 summer gardens, 15 thousand flower gardens and 4 new parks as a gift to Muscovites - all that was the “Flower Jam” 2019.

The third international competition and festival of urban landscape design “Flower Jam” of the Moscow Government was held in 2019.

42 projects of designers from 11 countries of the world (Russia, Italy, France, Slovakia, China, Uruguay, Finland, Latvia, Estonia, Georgia and Kazakhstan) reached the finals of “Flower Jam” 2019. They competed in five professional nominations: Large, Medium and Small Exhibition Gardens, the Student Projects Competition and the new category Landscape Design for Social Areas.

The creation of competitive gardens took more than 200.000 natural plants, and their total area exceeded 7.000 sq.m.

The gardens of "Flower Jam" participants decorated the Russian capital from June to October. From August 22 to September 8, a cultural program was organized at venues in the city center and its districts: live performances, concerts, musicals, master classes, lectures, excursions, open lessons and sports activities. Festival venues were visited by about 7.7 million Muscovites and tourists.

The special projects of the “Flower Jam – 2019” were the four new parks in residential areas of Moscow, created by the best foreign landscape designers.
